Jesuit Ruins

These ruins, located in the south of the country, are an expression of the Jesuit evangelizing work in South America, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993. We begin with the Mission of San Cosme y Damián, once the main astronomical center of South America. We then visit the Jesús de Tavarangüe mission, left unfinished after the Jesuits were expelled from South America by order of King Charles III of Spain in 1773. Finally, we visit the Santísima Trinidad del Paraná mission, the largest of the 30 missions built in South America, followed by a short tour of the city of Encarnación before returning to the capital.
